My life as of Wednesday the 14th

So the whole day today was gloomy.  For someone living in a tropical country, that is saying something.  Oh but I love the gloom! I love that feeling that all you want to do is creep under the covers, grab a flashlight, put music on repeat and read that book that has been silently dogging your peripheral vision for the last few weeks.

I want a day that didn't go by so quickly.

I'm slowly figuring out soundcloud, mixcloud and 8track. I love them all because of the diversity of the music that can be found.  Anyway, on soundcloud I finally uploaded my first track. It's not MINE per se, it is from the Soundtrack of  Pride and Prejudice (2005).  So now, as you read my blog, you can have a little track for your listening pleasure :)

Ah well, moving on. I read this article today and it touched my heart strings as a coffee lover.  Not that I will be getting any of her gear soon (come on now...) but I will do what she says, to basically grind fresh, and right before using, and to try to use more of the dripper, like the Vietnamese use, which incidentally, is my absolute favorite way of making coffee.

As art goes, I am simply in love with Alphonse Mucha (read up here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alphonse_Mucha).  This blog entry reminded me just how much :) He had a lovely beard too, if I do say so myself.

Though we do not particularly celebrate Thanksgiving here in the Philippines, we do however love turkey and all the trimmings.  These are some recipes that even if it isn't Thanksgiving, I think I will try my hand at :)

I love all the jewelry here! The fragile and fine look of the pieces make it all the more enticing to me.

These bookcases are crazy. I'm not sure I can keep one without having a small heart attack every time I walk by.

I don't know if I would give people bulbs of onions, but I do think this is a fantastic idea.

This just blew my mind. And made me hungry.    I mean, LOOK AT IT: http://www.natalieluder.ch/shop.htm

Another thing that blew my mind, was THESE little 3D figurines.  Oh my word. I want this.

Seems like an awesome thing to do, with or without kids :)

And because I am of the paranoid disposition, THIS IS AWESOME AND PERFECT for me. HAHAHA!  I think I'll look to have one made locally.

Lastly, FANTASTIC PICTURES :)

So far, not a bad hump day.  Hope all is well wherever you're hailing from :)

Long time entry....THANKSGIVING

It feels like it's been such a long time since I posted last.  I will try and do this justice by bullet points.  The short version of the story is that these last 2-3 weeks have been absolutely crap.  Let me emphasize that: ABSOLUTELY FULL OF CRAP.

Let me begin:

  • I went to the beach and got a really REALLY bad allergic reaction to food, which sent me straight to the doctor on literally, another island.  Got back to Manila had to have checkups and I was on meds.

  • A week later, drama ensued when C was nowhere to be found.  This part is his story, but I will say that those were the worst, and I mean WORST 12 hours of my life.  Not knowing where someone is, is NOT BLOODY COOL.

  • On top of all these anxiety attacks, plus those that come when the bills and rent statements come in, I had to bring myself to the ER twice in a span of 8 hours last Friday.  A rash last week kept spreading and though they kept shooting me up with steroids, it came back later on that night...which led to me being admitted into the hospital (by the insistence of C and the docs) for the weekend.  All glorious fun.  I'm now on hospital grade meds til next week.  They will have to test me next week as to what I'm allergic to since they couldn't do it this weekend.  The reason is that if they had added more allergens (?) into my system, however small, it could just send me into a coma style allergic reaction because I was hypersensitive already.  To add onto that, they found a slight infection from the urinalysis.

*SIGH*

Thanksgiving is today.  I'm going to say that I'm thankful for still being alive despite all this; being able to maintain relationships with my family and friends where they still love me, and for the music.  ALWAYS the music.  If not for the music, I would be clawing at walls now.   To list some of the other things I'm thankful for:

  • I'm thankful for my kitties who keep me company even though I know they only see me as a food dispenser / bed / tummy scratcher.

  • For "Mad Men" and "West Wing" for being intelligent escapes.

  • For the internet that endlessly keeps me entertained with fluff.

  • Aromatherapy for making my nose happy.

  • Medicines that keep whatever is wrong with me at bay.

  • My new job which I hope will start paying soon.

  • Canned goods and microwave jalapeno popcorn.

  • C for letting me in.

  • Water - which I will now treat as my siamese twin.

  • Cigarettes - my ugliest and filthiest habit, and favorite (and only) vice.  You suck, cigarettes, but I love you, all at the same time.

  • The holiday season, which is letting me know that slowly, but surely, this horrible year is coming to an end.

  • Thankful for thanksgiving today to mark the long weekend ahead.

Hope you all have a good Thanksgiving, whomever is reading this.  :)
